In times of overwhelm recognize that you’re in control.
Overwhelm isn’t something that happens to you. It something that happens because of you.
This is great news for many reasons.
The first being that overwhelm is a sign that you truly care about your career and those in your life. If this wasn’t the case then you wouldn’t feel overwhelmed in the first place.
The other reason is that if you can put yourself into a state of overwhelm then you can get yourself out of it as well.
It just comes down to a matter of discipline and focus.
Think about it…
Who do you need to focus on in order to feel overwhelmed?
One example could be all the things that need to get done. Yet it doesn’t feel like there’s enough time in the day.
That’s why it can be all too easy to blame events for creating overwhelm.
Doing this serves no purpose though. All it does is zap energy and decrease productivity.
Put another way, letting yourself stay in a state of overwhelm doesn’t fix the problem. It only leads to more overwhelm.
So the next time you find yourself becoming overwhelmed take it as a sign that you truly care about your career and those in your life.
Then hold yourself to a higher standard by creating the discipline to be fully present along with shifting all your focus to the things you can control and off the things you can’t.
