There’s a good chance that we’ll never feel like doing something tough.
It’s just the way many of us are wired.
I mean think about it…
When we’re born one of our greatest primal instincts is survival. Therefore, we’re always looking for ways to protect ourselves. We’re looking for comfort.
That’s why it’s natural for us to want to hesitate before doing something tough.
Yet this is something we must not do.
The reason being that hesitation is the one behavior that holds us back from everything we want. It creates fear, doubt and insecurity. The longer we hesitate the greater they become.
So, the next time hesitation starts creeping in don’t wait for motivation. It won’t do any good.
If anything, it’s just an excuse for us to put off what we know we have to do.
Instead, act immediately.
It will feel uncomfortable but do it any way and keep doing it every day.
In doing so, a new and more empowering habit will begin to develop. It’s a habit that creates a strength within to do the tough things even when we don’t feel like doing them.
The Ascent is a series where I document the experience of building YPE. It’s written from the following perspective: Advice I give to myself based on the lessons learned every day.
